Get to Know the Host of AWLATAM: Mexico City

With a population of over 120 million, Mexico is considered the second most populous country in Latin America – and one with privileged location – as it sits between the United States and the rest of Latin America. Therefore, it’s easy to understand the enormous influence Mexico has on the commercial, economic and social issues in the Americas and its role as the anchor of Latin America overall.

Mexico’s market is considered to have the largest number of media in all of Latin America, including big-name organizations such as Televisa, the main content creator in the Mexican territory and one of the main players in the entertainment business worldwide; Grupo Acir, the largest radio group in the country and one of the most important of LatAm; and Expansión, Mexico's largest publishing group, which oversees 16 magazines and 11 internet sites, the leading brands in its segment, and a cumulative audience of 50 million monthly consumers on its multi-platform.

Along with significant technological advances in the last few years, Mexico has also excelled in the creative arena, such as during 2015 when it broke national record by obtaining 26 Lions and a Grand Prix within the International Festival of Creativity Cannes Lions, standing out primarily by its campaigns focused on social marketing.

Mexico is also the host the Effie Awards, known by advertisers and agencies globally as the pre-eminent award in the industry and recognize any and all forms of marketing communication that contribute to a brand's success, which since 2000 have been directed by the Mexican Association of Advertising Agencies.

For 2017, one of Mexico City’s greatest undertakings will be innovation and custom marketing as part of its strategies for growth in the tourism sector, which represents one of the largest sources of income in the country, considering it’s the 9th most visited country in the world.

Likewise in recent years, Mexico City has received distinguished awards such as "Tourist Destination #1 for travel in 2016,” by the New York Times, and as the "World Capital of Design 2018" by the International Council of Societies Of Industrial Design.

As Advertising Week LATAM gears up to head to Mexico City from February 12 – 15, 2018, leaders in the marketing, advertising, agency, creative, tech and media industries are invited to learn more about the event by taking a look at previous AW events over the years, watching highlights from other global host cities, and learning more about pass and pricing options available.
